The Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota, is the Twin Cities’ only Comprehensive Cancer Center, designated ‘Outstanding’ by the National Cancer Institute.

As Minnesota’s Cancer Center, we have served the entire state for more than 30 years. Our researchers, educators, and care providers work to discover the causes, prevention, detection, and treatment of cancer and cancer-related diseases as well as provide whole-of-life care and resources for cancer survivors.

Across the U.S., there are less than 75 cancer centers like ours, designated and funded by the National Cancer Institute to expand our knowledge of the disease and deliver cutting-edge cancer treatments to patients. As an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Masonic Cancer Center is nationally recognized for our leadership and resources and for demonstrating an added depth and breadth of transdisciplinary research.

Quick facts:

  • Founded in 1991, we became an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in 1998.
  • We exist to reduce the burden of cancer on Minnesotans and beyond. The foundation of our work is collaborative research focused on the causes, prevention, detection, and treatment of cancer, as well as how to improve quality of life for patients and survivors.
  • As part of the University of Minnesota, our administrative and research offices are located on the UMN Twin Cities campus in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Our researchers come from across the world and have been trained in countless prestigious international and national institutions, and their work often allows them to partner with organizations and efforts around the globe.

Important notes:

  • For the first use, we should always be referred to as "Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota." After this, "Masonic Cancer Center" will suffice. We often self-abbreviate as MCC or "the MCC."
  • You can find noteworthy media coverage on our "In the Media" page.
  • Our leaders and staff are the heartbeat of our organization. We provide a list of senior leadership and staff, with titles and departments, in our employee directory
