Thyroid cancer is the most common cancer of the endocrine system and is often diagnosed at a younger age than many other adult cancers. While most thyroid cancers have an excellent prognosis when detected and treated early, many people know little about the disease, its risk factors, symptoms, treatment, or life after diagnosis. Raising awareness can help people better understand thyroid cancer and the experiences of those impacted by it.


Join us for a special Fireside Chat in honor of Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month, where we'll hear from both a clinical expert and a thyroid cancer survivor. Maria Evasovich, MD, a surgical oncologist at the University of Minnesota with extensive training in head and neck cancer and a specialization in endocrine surgery, will provide an overview of thyroid cancer, including risk factors, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and advances in research and care.

We'll also hear from Immaculate Oburu, an Army veteran, registered nurse, writer, and thyroid cancer survivor who was diagnosed with Stage 3 thyroid cancer at age 29. She will share her personal journey through diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship, including how her experience shaped her outlook on life and ultimately inspired her work as a death doula.
