We are thrilled to announce that the Masonic Cancer Center's Dr. Rahel Ghebre has been named the new Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs in the U of M Medical School. Dr. Ghebre brings a wealth of experience and a visionary approach to this pivotal role, and her leadership will further enhance our commitment to excellence in education, research, and clinical care. Dr. Ghebre is an esteemed academic physician who specializes in gynecologic oncology, global health, medical education, and health disparities. Since joining the University of Minnesota in 2005, she has made a significant impact. Her tenure as the Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship Director and her instrumental role in developing oncology programs in Rwanda and Ethiopia underscore her dedication to advancing medical education and global health initiatives.

Her leadership and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion are exemplary. As the Associate Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at MCC, Dr. Ghebre has been pivotal in executing strategic plans to diversify our workforce, recognizing that diverse research teams enhance the quality and outcomes of cancer research. Her efforts have profoundly affected faculty development, leading initiatives like the Early Pathways to Career Success Program to support women faculty across multiple academic divisions. Dr. Ghebre also serves as a member of and part of the leadership team for the M Physicians Board of Directors, where she plays a key role in member engagement and in navigating the complex issues facing healthcare today.

Dr. Ghebre’s vision for the Office of Faculty Affairs is rooted in collaboration, support, and excellence. She aims to ensure that the Medical School has a strong structure and set of programs to support the faculty in reaching their career goals and the strategic goals of the School. Dr. Ghebre is committed to actively listening to faculty needs and advocating for their well-being, fostering an environment of excellence that supports the highest aspirations for faculty. This kind of environment directly impacts the level of high-quality, life-saving research and care that flow from our entire #UMNCancer team.
