Denise Windenburg, Director of Network Operations, MNCCTN

Welcoming Denise Windenburg as Director of the Minnesota Cancer Clinical Trials Network

The Minnesota Cancer Clinical Trials Network (MNCCTN) is pleased to welcome Denise Windenburg, MHA, as its Director of Network Operations.

Denise brings more than 25 years of experience in clinical research operations, with a career spanning both academic medicine and independent research settings. She has led complex, multi-site clinical portfolios and built strong, multidisciplinary teams, with deep expertise in operational strategy, regulatory compliance, and research infrastructure.

Throughout her work, Denise has focused on strengthening the systems that make clinical research possible, ensuring studies are conducted with rigor, efficiency, and integrity, while also expanding the reach of research across institutions and communities.  Her leadership reflects a commitment to collaboration, quality, and continuous improvement.

Most recently, Denise served as Director of Research Operations and Effectiveness at the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation, where she advanced data-driven operational strategies, strengthened training and compliance programs, and supported the growth of multi-site research initiatives and teams.  She has also held several leadership roles at the University of Minnesota, contributing to practice-based research networks and large, interdisciplinary trial portfolios.

MNCCTN plays a vital role in expanding access to clinical trials across Minnesota by supporting research sites, building partnerships, and helping connect patients to studies closer to home.  By strengthening the infrastructure behind clinical research, the Network helps ensure that more people have the opportunity to participate in trials and benefit from emerging advances in care.

“Denise brings a depth of experience and a thoughtful, collaborative approach to this role,” said Dedra Schendzielos, Executive Director of Clinical Research for the Masonic Cancer Center.  “Her leadership will be instrumental as we continue to strengthen the Network and expand access to clinical trials across the state.”

Please join us in welcoming Denise to MNCCTN.
