Masonic Cancer Center announces new leadership for cancer research training and education
The Masonic Cancer Center (MCC), University of Minnesota is pleased to announce new leadership appointments in Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC). Martin Felices, PhD, was named associate director of CRTEC in April 2026, and Anne Weber-Main, PhD, joined him as co-associate director in July 2026.
Together, Felices and Weber-Main will guide MCC’s efforts to support cancer research education, mentorship, professional development, and career pathways for learners and investigators at different stages of their careers.
CRTEC coordinates education and training opportunities across the cancer center, connecting students, trainees, faculty, and staff with programs designed to strengthen research skills and support careers in cancer science. Its work also helps the center evaluate its training activities and build connections among educational programs across the University.
Felices is an associate professor in the U of M Medical School’s Division of Hematology, Oncology and Transplantation whose research focuses on improving natural killer cell immunotherapies, including the development of biologics that help immune cells recognize tumors, migrate to tumor sites, and function within challenging tumor environments.
Weber-Main is a professor in the Medical School’s Division of General Internal Medicine whose work focuses on research faculty development, scientific and medical writing, grant preparation, and effective mentoring models.
Felices and Weber-Main bring complementary experience in laboratory research, mentorship, faculty development, and research education. Their combined perspectives will help the Masonic Cancer Center continue developing useful, coordinated training opportunities for our cancer research community.
Felices succeeds Christopher Pennell, PhD, who led the center’s education and training efforts for many years. Pennell will continue to support CRTEC in a senior advisory role, providing guidance and institutional knowledge as the new leadership team establishes its priorities.
